About Amethyst Agate
Agate is a translucent, banded variety of microcrystalline quartz, its bands laid down layer by layer as silica is deposited inside rock cavities. Amethyst is the purple variety of crystalline quartz, colored by trace iron exposed to natural radiation. Both are quartz, hard and able to take a glassy polish.
