Botryoidal comes from the Greek word for a bunch of grapes, and grape agate is that word turned into stone.
The rounded beads catch light on every curve, and the cluster sits comfortably in one hand, so it works on a desk, a nightstand or a shelf of smaller specimens. Its shape is a natural growth form, which is a large part of why people collect it: no two clusters bunch together the same way. The photos show the exact tones in this cluster. It makes a fun gift for someone who loves purple, or for a mineral fan who wants a specimen with a shape nobody expects.
Grape agate is botryoidal chalcedony colored purple by trace iron, from the Batu Manakarra area of Sulawesi, Indonesia, and it is a relatively new find. Despite the name it is not true agate, because it lacks agate's banding. Colors range from deep purple and lavender to greenish blue, and some pieces carry a sparkly druzy coating.
Stone Meaning: Grape agate is traditionally associated with calm and confidence.
