Grape agate is something of a misnomer: it is chalcedony, and it has none of the banding true agate shows.
What it does have is texture. This compact cluster is built from small rounded orbs that stack into bunches, and the piece is nearly as deep as it is long, so it looks full from every side. Its small footprint suits a nightstand, a crystal shelf or a gift box, and it is easy to hold and turn in the hand. Grape agate often runs purple with blue, white, green or gray grains, and the photos show this piece's colors. A neat introduction to botryoidal minerals for a new collector.
Grape agate is botryoidal chalcedony, a microcrystalline quartz that grows in rounded clusters of tiny spheres; botryoidal comes from the Greek word for a bunch of grapes. Its purple color comes from trace iron. Most grape agate on the market comes from Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Stone Meaning: Grape agate is traditionally associated with calm and self confidence.
