Not every room calls for bright color. These natural agate geode bookends show the stone in its earthy grays, tans and creams, with banding that circles a crystal-lined center on each polished face.
At 6 to 9 pounds for the pair, they are sturdy enough for paperbacks and most hardcovers. Both halves come from the same Brazilian geode, so they mirror each other, and the rough natural back gives them a grounded, organic feel that suits wood, linen and neutral decor. They make a thoughtful housewarming or graduation gift, too.
Agate is a translucent form of microcrystalline quartz, rated 7 on the Mohs scale. It forms in layers as silica-rich groundwater seeps into rock cavities, and some of those cavities become geodes lined with crystals. Cutting a geode in half and polishing the faces creates a natural matching pair.
Do I receive a matching pair? Yes, both bookends are halves of the same geode.
What size books do they hold? At 6 to 9 pounds for the pair, they hold a row of paperbacks or several hardcovers upright on a shelf.
