Most amethyst cut bases are about the purple; this one is just as much about the agate.
Bands of white, gray, green and brown wrap around the crystal center, and the back adds blue to the mix, so both sides are worth showing. The base is cut flat to stand it upright, and it is compact enough for a desk, a windowsill or a curio cabinet. Light from the side brings out the banding, while light from the front makes the amethyst sparkle. It suits someone who collects agates as much as crystals.
Agate is a banded, translucent form of microcrystalline quartz. Its bands form as silica is deposited in layers inside rock cavities by groundwater of changing composition. It is hard and takes a high polish, which is why it has been made into cabochons, beads, bookends and carvings for thousands of years.
Stone Meaning: Agate is traditionally associated with balance and stability.
