A member of our team hand polished both slices for a smooth, shiny finish, and the photos taken outside, backlit by the sun, show how light passes through the thin stone. Slice 1 is about 6.5 by 6.375 inches and slice 2 about 6.75 by 7 inches, each roughly a quarter inch thick, so they are close enough in size to sit side by side on a shelf, a mantel or a sill where light reaches them. Set them up together for someone who collects agate, or split them between two rooms and let each slice catch its own light. Both slices in the photos come to you as the set.

About Agate

Agate is a translucent, banded variety of microcrystalline quartz. Its bands form as silica is deposited layer by layer inside a rock cavity, and some cavities end up lined with sparkling druzy crystals. Agate is slightly porous, so it takes dye well, which is how most vividly colored agate in the trade is made.
