Cut from the same agate geode, these six polished slices share one pattern that shifts a little from slice to slice, so the set reads as a matched group.
Each slice was hand cut, polished and hand selected, and because they come from one stone, you can follow the banding as it changes through the geode, which is something a mixed set cannot show. Fan them out on a coffee table, line them up along a windowsill where light can pass through the thinner edges, prop them in a row on a shelf, or use them in a resin, mosaic or other art project. At about 8 to 10 inches long, they are large enough to make a statement as a group. They make a thoughtful gift for a geology lover, an artist or someone decorating a new space. These are the exact six slices shown.
Each slice is about 8 to 10 inches long by 4 to 5 inches wide and about 0.3 inch thick. One photo shows a slice in a hand for scale.
Agate is a translucent, banded form of microcrystalline quartz. Its bands form as silica is deposited layer by layer inside a rock cavity by groundwater of changing composition, and some cavities end up as geodes with a crystal center. Slicing the nodule thin and polishing both faces shows the full pattern, and because agate is hard quartz, the polish holds up well.
Stone Meaning: Agate is traditionally associated with balance and stability.
