Small, polished and easy to give, this agate amethyst point is a simple way to add some amethyst to a desk or shelf.
Agate and amethyst often form in the same geode, and this point is cut from that kind of material, polished on its faces with druzy along one edge. It is fairly flat, about 1.5 inches deep, so it rests comfortably in the hand and can lean against books or sit in a small dish. The color runs to a cool gray blue purple rather than a deep violet. At about 4 inches tall it suits a nightstand, a bathroom shelf or a work desk, and as the February birthstone, amethyst gives you a ready reason to wrap it up for someone. This is the exact agate amethyst point shown.
Agate is a banded, translucent form of microcrystalline quartz whose bands form as silica is laid down in layers inside rock cavities. Some of those cavities become geodes, and geode interiors are typically agate, chalcedony or quartz, which is why agate and purple amethyst so often turn up in the same rock. Amethyst takes its purple from trace iron and natural radiation, and it is the February birthstone.
Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
