Moldavite was born in a collision from space. About 15 million years ago, a meteorite struck what is now southern Germany, and the heat melted rock into this forest green glass that landed mainly in today's Czech Republic.

About Moldavite

Moldavite is a tektite, a natural silica glass formed by the meteorite impact at the Ries crater in southern Germany about 15 million years ago. Most finds come from southern Bohemia in the Czech Republic. It is forest green to olive and has a hardness of 5.5 to 7.
