Topaz is the hardest silicate mineral, and here it shares the stone with polylithionite, a lithium rich mica.
The polylithionite has grown right on the topaz cluster, so you get two minerals in one natural specimen, something a faceted gem or a tumbled stone cannot offer. The photos include a shot of it held in hand and a view of the back, so you can judge the size and both sides before you decide. It sits comfortably on a cabinet shelf or a desk, and it makes a good gift for a November birthday or for a collector who wants topaz in its raw crystal form rather than set in a ring.
Topaz rates 8 on the Mohs scale, and most natural topaz is colorless. Polylithionite, KLi2AlSi4O10(F,OH)2, is one end of a series that runs through lepidolite to trilithionite. Like other micas, it splits into thin, flexible sheets.
Stone Meaning: Topaz is traditionally associated with clarity and creativity.
