Septarian hearts start life as concretions on an ancient sea floor, which is part of their appeal.
The stone formed as mud nodules that cracked, and those cracks later filled with calcite, so a septarian heart shows a web of lines across its face, and no two match. Heart 1 is a little narrower and slimmer at about 3 by 2.5 inches. Heart 2 is the rounder, chunkier one at 3 by 3 by 1.5 inches, which gives a good, solid feel in the palm. Both are small enough for a desk or a nightstand and work well as a Valentine's Day gift for someone who prefers earthy browns to pink. You choose the exact piece from the photos.
Each numbered option is pictured on its own, so the piece you see is the piece you receive. Heart 1 measures about 3 by 2.5 by 1 inches; heart 2 measures about 3 by 3 by 1.5 inches.
Septarian is a concretion: a nodule of mudstone that cracked as it formed, with the cracks later filled by calcite, often yellow. The name comes from the Latin septum, for partition.
Stone Meaning: Septarian is traditionally associated with nurturing and communication.
