Nothing reads quite as dark as polished obsidian, and this compact cut base brings that deep black to a desk or shelf.
It is polished on one side and the edges are shaved down, leaving the natural outline of the volcanic glass, and its flat base keeps it upright. At about 8.5 inches tall, it is a compact piece, a good fit for a bookshelf, a home office or a side table where a bigger piece would crowd things. It is sold as is with a chip; the polished face still gives that mirror black shine. Set it near lighter decor for strong contrast, or give it to a collector of volcanic glass. Photos are stock images, so your piece will be similar.
The cut base is about 8.5 by 4 by 4 inches. Look at the ruler photo for scale.
Obsidian is natural volcanic glass, formed when lava cools too fast to crystallize. It breaks with a curved conchoidal fracture, which is why shaved and chipped edges show smooth, shell shaped surfaces, and a polished face takes a deep, mirror black shine.
Stone Meaning: Black obsidian is traditionally associated with grounding and protection.
