Watermelon tourmaline gets its name from a pink core wrapped in a green rim, and this large specimen carries pink and green tourmaline on a base of crystal quartz.
It is a rough, natural specimen rather than a polished shape, so you see the crystals as they formed, sitting on clear quartz. At about 8 by 7 inches and 10.5 pounds, it is big enough to be the main piece in a cabinet, a bookshelf display or a living room console. It is also a meaningful gift for an October birthday or an eighth anniversary. This is the exact watermelon tourmaline specimen shown.
The specimen is about 8 inches by 7 inches by 5 inches and weighs about 10.5 pounds (about 4.8 kilograms). One photo shows it next to a ruler.
Watermelon tourmaline is tourmaline with a pink core and a green rim. Tourmaline is a large group of boron silicate minerals; manganese produces its pinks and reds, while iron, and possibly titanium, produces greens and blues. It is an October birthstone, alongside opal, and the gem for the eighth wedding anniversary.
Stone Meaning: Watermelon tourmaline is traditionally associated with love and balance.
