A seated goddess carved from gold sheen obsidian, with a golden shimmer that shows when light moves across the black glass.
From across the room she reads as a calm black figure in meditation; step closer and the gold sheen appears, which the close up photos capture well. The side view shows a good depth, so she stands with presence on a mantel, a meditation altar, a yoga studio shelf or a home office bookcase. A carved figure in natural volcanic glass makes a meaningful gift for a meditation teacher, a new yoga practitioner, or anyone who collects goddess statues and wants one in stone rather than resin.
About Gold Sheen Obsidian
Obsidian is natural volcanic glass that formed when lava cooled too quickly for crystals to grow. The gold sheen comes from tiny gas bubbles stretched nearly flat along the flow layers of the glass, which reflect light in a golden band. As with any glass, it polishes to a mirror shine and breaks with a sharp, shell shaped fracture.
Stone Meaning: Black obsidian is traditionally associated with grounding and protection.
Good to Know
- The sheen is directional: place the carving where a lamp or window light strikes it from the side, and turn it until the gold band shows on the face you see most.
- Wipe the polished surface with a soft dry cloth; fingerprints show readily on black glass.
