Bold batik patterns are hand applied to these carved bone beads from Kenya, giving each strand a striking, tribal inspired look. They are fair trade and made from cow bone, a by-product of agriculture.

Choose wave barrel beads (about 10 by 6 millimeters, around 50 per strand), wave rice beads (about 25 by 5 millimeters, around 25 per strand) or zig zag rice beads (about 30 by 6 millimeters, around 24 per strand). Mix them with wood, brass and gemstone beads for necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Because they are handmade, every bead varies a little.
