Unlike silky white satin spar, optical selenite is clear enough to see through, like a small, softly blurred window. This tumbled piece is smooth and rounded, about 1 by 1 by 0.5 inches and 15 grams.
Carry it in a pocket or purse, add it to a crystal grid, fill a small vase with several, or collect it alongside other selenite. It is an inexpensive gift and a good starter stone. Selenite is very soft and water sensitive, so keep it dry and store it apart from harder stones.
Selenite is a crystalline variety of gypsum, a hydrous calcium sulfate. With a Mohs hardness of only 2, it scratches easily and should be kept dry. Much of the silky white material sold as selenite is satin spar, the fibrous variety of gypsum.
Stone Meaning: Selenite is traditionally associated with cleansing and calm.
