Blue is a less familiar color for fluorite, which shows up far more often in purple, green and yellow.
This small cluster comes from China and stands a little taller than it is wide, about 1.75 inches high, so it presents well upright in a specimen box or on a narrow shelf. At 65 grams it is a solid little piece with some weight for its size. It suits a fluorite collection that already has the usual purples and greens, or a gift for someone who loves the color blue. Under a UV light many fluorites fluoresce blue violet, which is fun to test at home. This is the exact fluorite cluster shown.
This cluster is about 1 by 1 by 1.75 inches and weighs about 65 grams. The ruler photo helps show its size.
Fluorite is calcium fluoride, the mineral that defines hardness 4 on the Mohs scale. It is best known in purple, green and yellow, but it also occurs in blue and colorless forms. It splits cleanly along four cleavage directions, and many specimens glow blue violet under UV light.
Stone Meaning: Fluorite is traditionally associated with focus and clarity.
