Amethyst portals are geode slices with an open center, and their edges are raw stone, straight from the ground.
The opening through the middle is what gives a portal its name, framed by amethyst crystal and the rough outer rock. That contrast reads well on a bookshelf, a mantel or in a sacred space. Slabs 1 and 2 are the same size, about 8.5 by 7 inches and 1.5 inches thick. Slab 3 is a touch larger and thicker. Slab 4 is the biggest across at about 10 by 8.5 inches but the slimmest at 1 inch. They make a good housewarming or February birthday gift. You choose the exact piece from the photos.
Each numbered option is pictured on its own, so the piece you see is the piece you receive. Sizes run from about 8.5 by 7 inches to 10 by 8.5 inches; see the list below.
Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz, colored by trace iron exposed to natural radiation. Geodes form as mineral rich groundwater slowly deposits crystal inside a hollow cavity, and many commercial amethyst geodes come from Brazil and Uruguay. A portal is a slice through such a geode, cut so the open center shows.
Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
