The contrast between bright purple amethyst and the plain brown outer rock is what you notice first on this cut base.
It also includes stalactite formations, the drip formed growths that develop inside some amethyst geodes, which add texture among the crystals. The base has been cut flat so the piece stands on its own, and at about 6.5 inches in each direction it is nearly as tall as it is wide, a compact block that looks finished from the front and the sides. Put it on a bookshelf, beside a lamp or on an entry table where the purple catches the light. It makes a good February birthday gift, since amethyst is the February birthstone. This is the exact cut base shown.
The cut base is about 6.5 by 6.5 by 6.25 inches, and the ruler photo shows it to scale.
Amethyst is purple quartz colored by trace iron and natural radiation. Stalactites form as mineral rich water drips and deposits layer after layer, and amethyst stalactites grow inside geodes in volcanic basalt, notably near Artigas, Uruguay.
Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
