Amethyst with calcite tells a longer geological story than amethyst alone.
This cut base cluster has calcite formations on the amethyst, a second mineral that typically forms after amethyst in the same cavities. The contrast between the two adds texture and makes the piece interesting to examine up close. At about 6.5 by 7 inches and 3 inches deep, it is a solid, nearly square cluster, and the flat sawn bottom lets it stand by itself on a shelf, a mantel or an entry table. For a February birthday or a geology lover who appreciates mixed specimens, it gives more to look at than a plain cluster. This is the exact amethyst and calcite cut base shown.
Size runs about 6.5 by 7 by 3 inches, with a ruler photo for reference.
Amethyst is purple quartz colored by trace iron and natural radiation. Calcite, calcium carbonate, often crystallizes later in the same geode pockets, leaving calcite crystals perched on the purple points. Calcite is much softer than quartz, 3 on the Mohs scale, so those areas deserve gentler handling.
Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
