You do not need a big geode to enjoy the look of real amethyst crystal with calcite.
This rough cluster shows natural purple amethyst points with calcite, a mineral that often forms later in the same pockets and adds a second texture. At about 6 inches long and over 3 inches deep, it has enough body to anchor a shelf, a desk corner or an entry table, and the hand photo shows the scale. Amethyst is the February birthstone, which makes it a natural birthday gift, and it is just as welcome as a housewarming or thank you present. This is the exact cluster shown.
The cluster is about 6 by 4 by 3.25 inches.
Amethyst is purple quartz colored by trace iron and natural radiation. Calcite, calcium carbonate, often crystallizes later in the same geode pockets, leaving calcite crystals perched on the purple points. Calcite is much softer than quartz, 3 on the Mohs scale, so those areas deserve gentler handling.
Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
