Most amethyst clusters are a bed of points; this one also has a large stalactite, with calcite formations alongside.
Amethyst stalactites form inside geodes in volcanic rock, and the photos show the stalactite clearly along with the calcite, which crystallized later in the same pocket. The cluster comes on a custom black metal stand and reaches nearly three feet, so it works on the floor of a living room, on a wide sideboard, in a spa or at an office entrance. The back side has its own photo. It weighs over 95 pounds and ships in a custom made crate. For a February birthday or a business milestone, it is a gift that starts conversations about how crystals grow. You will receive this exact cluster and stand.
Overall it stands about 2 feet 11.5 inches tall, 1 foot 5.5 inches wide and 9 inches thick, and weighs over 95 pounds. The ruler photo shows the scale.
Amethyst is purple quartz colored by trace iron and natural radiation. Amethyst stalactites form inside geodes in volcanic basalt and are well known from mines near Artigas, Uruguay; sliced, they show bands of chalcedony and amethyst around the core. Calcite, calcium carbonate, often crystallizes later in the same pockets and is much softer than quartz, 3 on the Mohs scale.
Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
