When an amethyst bowl keeps its crystals, matrix and calcite together, you get a piece that doubles as a mineral specimen.
This shallow amethyst bowl is semi polished, pairing purple amethyst with calcite on its natural matrix. Made from Brazilian stone, it is a decorative dish for a coffee table, a dresser or an entry console, and it can hold tumbled stones, a small crystal or simply sit on display. At about 5.75 inches across, it fits easily on a nightstand or bookshelf, and the top view photo shows the crystal arrangement. It makes a thoughtful gift for a February birthday, a housewarming or someone who collects amethyst. This is the exact amethyst and calcite bowl shown.
The bowl is about 5.75 by 5.5 by 0.875 inches.
Amethyst is purple quartz colored by trace iron and natural radiation. Calcite, calcium carbonate, often crystallizes later in the same geode pockets, leaving calcite crystals perched on the purple points. Calcite is much softer than quartz, 3 on the Mohs scale, so those areas deserve gentler handling.
Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
