Carved one at a time into small, puffy hearts, this turquoise from the Kingman Mine in Arizona shows the blue to blue green shades of American turquoise.
Set one in a bezel for a pendant or ring, wire wrap it, glue it into a mosaic or mixed media piece, or keep it in a pocket as a small keepsake. It also makes a meaningful gift for someone who loves Southwestern jewelry.
Each heart is about 14 to 20 by 15 to 22 millimeters. Shade, matrix and shape vary because each is hand carved from natural turquoise, and small cracks or marks are part of the stone rather than damage.
The Kingman Mine sits in the Mineral Park area of the Cerbat Mountains in northwestern Arizona, inside an old copper mine. Turquoise there has been mined for at least 1,800 years, and deeper zones produce a richer blue. Most rough from the mine is stabilized to make it durable enough to cut.
Stone Meaning: Turquoise is traditionally associated with protection and calm.
