Amethyst and calcite often grow together in the same geode pocket, and this carved heart shows both.
It is a large heart, about 7 by 6 inches, cut from amethyst geode material so the crystal face carries purple points with calcite among them. At about 2 inches thick it has some heft, and it looks good propped on a stand on a mantel, a bookshelf or a dresser. The stand in the photos is not included, so you will need your own stand to display it upright. For a February birthday, an anniversary or Valentine's Day, a heart this size makes a memorable gift. The heart you see in the photos is the one we ship.
Measurements: about 7 inches by 6 inches, 2 inches thick. The ruler photo gives a sense of scale.
Amethyst is purple quartz colored by trace iron and natural radiation. Calcite, calcium carbonate, often crystallizes later in the same geode pockets, leaving calcite crystals perched on the purple points. Calcite is much softer than quartz, 3 on the Mohs scale, so those areas deserve gentler handling.
Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
