Most amethyst hearts are polished smooth, but this one is a cluster, with the purple crystals left as they grew.
From the front you see a field of amethyst points shaped into a heart outline. A side view shows a rim of white crystal along the edges, and the back is the gray rock, with green basalt, that the amethyst formed on. Seeing all three layers in one piece shows how amethyst actually grows, and it gives the heart far more depth. Set it on a nightstand, a dresser or next to a framed photo. It makes a good anniversary or Valentine's gift for someone who already owns the usual smooth heart and would enjoy something with texture.
Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz. Its color comes from trace iron exposed to natural radiation, and it is the modern birthstone for February. Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia and Zambia are among the largest producers.
Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
