Collectors of ore minerals will want a close look at this vanadinite cluster, which carries plenty of barite on its main face.
Vanadinite crystals glisten across the top and front of the stone, set against a heavy layer of barite, so the specimen shows the classic pairing of hexagonal vanadinite crystals on a companion mineral. At about 345 grams it is a solid choice for a mineral cabinet, a desk or a collector's shelf where the front can face outward. It makes a memorable gift for a mineral collector or a geology fan. This is the exact vanadinite cluster shown.
The cluster is about 3 by 2.5 by 1.5 inches and weighs about 0.345 kilograms.
Vanadinite is lead chlorovanadate, roughly 73 percent lead, and an ore of vanadium. It usually forms short red, orange red or brown hexagonal prisms. Barite, barium sulfate, is a common companion mineral; it is unusually heavy for a nonmetallic mineral, and its name comes from the Greek word for heavy. Both are soft, about 2.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale.
Stone Meaning: Vanadinite is traditionally associated with motivation and focus.
