A seashell carved from smoky quartz holds fine rutile threads suspended inside the stone.
Crystal artisans in Brazil carved this piece into the spiral form of a conch shell, and the subtle rutile inclusions add depth when you turn it toward a window or lamp. The smoky brown quartz gives the shell a warm, natural tone that fits beach houses, coastal decor, a study or a curio cabinet. At about 6 inches long, it is a substantial carving for a shelf or coffee table and comfortable to hold. It makes a memorable gift for an ocean lover, a shell collector or someone who loves rutilated quartz. This is the exact conch shell shown.
The carving is about 6 by 3.125 by 2.75 inches. Look at the in hand photo for scale.
Rutilated quartz is quartz that grew around needles of rutile, which usually look golden, sometimes silver, red or black. Smoky quartz gets its brown tone when natural radiation activates color centers around trace aluminum, and Brazil supplies most commercial smoky quartz.
Stone Meaning: Smoky quartz is traditionally associated with grounding and calm.
