A raw piece of silvery galena from the Mibladen Mine in Morocco comes sealed in a clear plastic collector case. The stone measures about 16 to 24 millimeters by 22 to 25 millimeters, and the case about 28 by 22 millimeters.
The case keeps the specimen protected and ready to display on a desk, shelf or coffee table, and it makes a neat conversation piece or educational gift for mineral fans. Choose 1, 5 or 10.
Galena is lead sulfide, so keep it in its case, out of reach of children and pets, and wash your hands after handling it if you take it out. It is very heavy for its size. Each specimen varies in shape and detail.
Galena is lead sulfide and the main ore of lead. It forms cubic crystals with perfect cleavage, shows bright silver faces that tarnish to dull gray, and is unusually heavy for its size. Because of its lead content, it has been removed from many educational collections.
