This extra large pyrite cabochon has a brassy, metallic shine, in a round or oval shape about 30 to 48 millimeters by 25 to 40 millimeters.
Set it in a large bezel for a statement pendant, belt buckle or bolo tie, add it to a crystal grid, or display it on a desk. Its name comes from the Greek word for fire, and it makes a striking gift for anyone who loves metallic stones.
Pyrite can tarnish with moisture, so keep it dry and wipe it with a soft cloth. Each cabochon is natural, so shape and size vary; the quarter photo shows the scale.
Pyrite is iron sulfide, the most common sulfide mineral, nicknamed fool's gold for its brassy color and metallic luster. It often forms natural cubes and other geometric crystals, has a Mohs hardness of 6 to 6.5, and can tarnish with moisture, so keep it dry.
Stone Meaning: Pyrite is traditionally associated with luck and abundance.
