This specimen pairs golden metallic pyrite with bright, glassy apophyllite crystals, two very different looks in one cluster.
The pyrite brings a brassy shine and sharp crystal faces, while the apophyllite adds clear to white crystals with a vitreous gleam, so the contrast catches the eye from any side of a shelf. It is a strong collector's piece for a display case, a desk or an office, and it photographs well under a lamp. At about 4 inches, it is compact enough to fit almost anywhere. It makes a memorable gift for a mineral collector, a new business owner or anyone who loves sparkle. This is the exact cluster shown.
The cluster is about 4 by 3.75 by 2.5 inches. Look at the close up photo to see the crystal detail.
Pyrite is iron sulfide, nicknamed fool's gold for its brassy color and metallic luster, and it often grows as natural cubes. Apophyllite is a group of silicate minerals that forms glassy, prismatic crystals. Pyrite can tarnish with moisture, and apophyllite is moderately soft, about 4.5 to 5 on the Mohs scale.
Stone Meaning: Pyrite is traditionally associated with confidence and abundance.
