RK1-30
Heavy, dramatic and unmistakably purple, this geode bookend pair weighs 9 to 12 pounds together, enough to hold a full row of hardcovers upright. The two halves form a matching pair, so their bands and crystal pockets mirror each other.
The polished faces show off the agate's rings and sparkling centers, while the backs are left natural. The purple is dyed for a bold, even color. This size makes a real statement in a library, living room or office, and a memorable housewarming or graduation gift. Wholesale by the pound is available.
Agate is a translucent form of microcrystalline quartz. Its bands form as silica-rich groundwater deposits layer after layer inside a rock cavity, and some of those cavities become crystal-lined geodes. At Mohs 7, agate is hard enough to polish to a glassy face. Because agate is slightly porous, it takes dye well, which is how the vivid colored bookends in the trade are made.
