Blush pink barite, metallic galena and translucent cerussite share this one small specimen, three minerals with very different looks.
The soft pastel barite contrasts with the silvery galena, while cerussite adds glassy, translucent crystals, so there is something new to see every time you look at it under a loupe. It is completely natural and unpolished. At about 4 inches long and only 135 grams, it fits neatly in a display case or a specimen drawer. It makes a thoughtful gift for a mineral collector who appreciates multi mineral pieces. Galena and cerussite both contain lead, so the safety note below covers simple handling. This is the exact specimen shown.
The specimen is about 4 by 1.5 by 0.5 inches and weighs about 0.14 kilograms.
Barite is barium sulfate, soft at 2.5 to 3.5 on the Mohs scale and unusually heavy for a nonmetallic mineral. Galena is lead sulfide, the main ore of lead, with a bright metallic luster. Cerussite is lead carbonate, which often forms as galena weathers, and it is known for its glassy, highly reflective crystals.
Stone Meaning: Barite is traditionally associated with motivation and independence.
