These small Mexican onyx bowls have a wavy, irregular shape and soft bands of yellow, cream and gray. Mexican onyx is actually banded calcite, carved and polished by artisans in Mexico.
Use one as a ring dish on a vanity, a key tray by the door or a holder for tumbled stones and palo santo. The warm, neutral colors suit farmhouse, coastal and modern decor alike, and a bowl makes a practical, pretty gift for a new home.
Each numbered option is pictured on its own, so the piece you see is the piece you receive. Bowls are about 5.5 to 6.5 inches long, 3.75 to 5.25 inches wide and 1 to 1.25 inches tall, weighing 145 to 305 grams.
Despite the name, Mexican onyx is not true onyx. It is banded calcite, sometimes called onyx marble or travertine, and this material is described as coming from Tehuacan, Mexico. Calcite has a hardness of 3, so it carves easily and takes a soft polish.
Stone Meaning: Mexican onyx is traditionally associated with calm and clarity.
