Light Mexican Onyx Bowl - Small Wavy Stone Dish

This light Mexican onyx bowl shows yellow, cream and gray banding, and its irregular wavy rim makes it as much sculpture as dish.

Use it to hold keys, jewelry or tumbled stones, set it on a coffee table or altar, or give it as a housewarming gift. The banding is different in every bowl.

Each bowl is about 5 to 5.125 inches by 6.375 to 6.5 inches, 1.125 to 1.75 inches tall, and weighs about 400 to 510 grams. It comes from Tehuacan, Mexico.

About Mexican Onyx

Mexican onyx is a trade name for banded calcite, not true onyx. Calcite is soft, about 3 on the Mohs scale, so it scratches more easily than quartz.
