Miners once mistook dioptase for emerald because its green is so intense. Here that color sparkles against soft blue green chrysocolla in a true collector specimen.
The pairing of two copper minerals gives it remarkable color contrast, and the crystal structure rewards a close look under a lamp or loupe. A piece like this belongs in a lit display cabinet or on a collector's desk where it will be seen and protected. It is a significant gift for a serious mineral collector or anyone who loves vivid green. This is the exact specimen shown.
The specimen is about 5.125 inches tall, 4.75 inches wide and 2 inches thick, and weighs about 0.81 kilograms.
Dioptase is a copper silicate with an intense emerald to bluish green color; miners in Kazakhstan in the late 1700s mistook it for emerald. It is fragile, about 5 on the Mohs scale with perfect cleavage. Chrysocolla is a blue green hydrous copper silicate that forms in the oxidation zones of copper deposits.
Stone Meaning: Dioptase is traditionally associated with renewal, and chrysocolla with calm communication.
