This cluster looks frosted: purple amethyst points are dusted with a sugary coating of calcite crystals that sparkle as you move.
The fine calcite catches light in a softer way than the amethyst, so the whole piece seems to glitter. At about 6 inches, it suits a desk, a mantel, a bookshelf or a mineral cabinet. It is a delightful addition to a collection and a memorable gift for a February birthday, the holidays or someone who loves sparkle. This is the exact cluster shown. Because it is a natural specimen, the arrangement of crystals and calcite on this piece is its own.
The cluster is about 4.5 by 6 by 4 inches. Look through every photo, including the back, to see the sugary calcite.
Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz, colored by trace iron and natural radiation, and the modern February birthstone. Calcite, a much softer calcium carbonate mineral, often crystallizes on top of amethyst inside geodes, adding white to pale crystals that contrast with the purple.
Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
