This cluster pairs deep purple amethyst with creamy white to golden calcite, a natural color combination, and it looks a little different from every angle.
The calcite formed after the amethyst, settling among the points, so you get glassy purple and warm gold in one specimen. At about 7 inches wide, it is a centerpiece size for a mantel, a console, an office credenza or a collector's cabinet. The back is rough, as you can see in the photos, and the base sits flat enough to display without a stand. It makes a lasting gift for a February birthday, a housewarming or a mineral collector who already has plain amethyst. This is the exact cluster shown.
The cluster is about 7 by 4 by 3 inches. Look at the back view photo to see the rough side.
Amethyst is purple quartz colored by trace iron and natural radiation. Calcite, calcium carbonate, often crystallizes later in the same geode pockets, leaving creamy white to golden crystals perched on the purple points. Calcite is much softer than quartz, 3 on the Mohs scale, so those areas deserve gentler handling.
Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
