The Maneki Neko, Japan's famous beckoning cat, greets everyone who walks in with a raised paw and a cheerful face.
Lucky cats are traditionally placed near the entrance of shops and restaurants to welcome good fortune and customers. Set one by your register, front door, desk or bookshelf, or give it as a housewarming, new business or graduation gift. Choose from nine colors, each with its own traditional meaning, in small or large sizes depending on availability.
This lucky cat runs on AA batteries, which are not included. The small size is about 6 inches tall and the large is about 7 inches tall.
Maneki Neko means 'beckoning cat' in Japanese, and the figurines likely date to the Edo period. Tradition holds that a raised left paw invites customers, while a raised right paw invites money, which is why you see them in so many shops and restaurants.
