Meteorite, Libyan Desert Glass and Fulgurite Framed Box Display

Own a piece of another world, or a flash of lightning frozen in glass. Each of these black framed boxes presents a remarkable natural specimen with its own information card, ready to display on a shelf or desk.

Choose from Mars meteorite, lunar meteorite, a meteorite collection, Libyan desert glass or fulgurite. Libyan desert glass is a natural glass from the Sahara near the Libya and Egypt border, thought to have formed in a meteorite impact about 29 million years ago. Fulgurite, often called fossilized lightning, forms when lightning strikes sand; these come from the Sahara in Algeria. Every framed meteorite box holds one or two specimens.

It makes a memorable gift for space fans, science teachers, rockhounds and anyone who has ever wanted to own a piece of the Moon. The boxes are about 5.5 by 4.5 inches, a compact size for a desk, bookshelf or classroom display. Three numbered boxes are offered of each type, and you receive the exact one you choose.

About Meteorites from Mars and the Moon

Martian and lunar meteorites are rocks blasted off Mars or the Moon by impacts that later fell to Earth. Scientists identify them by comparing their chemistry with spacecraft measurements of Mars and with Apollo samples. Martian meteorites make up less than 0.5% of all classified meteorites, and lunar meteorites have been found in desert regions such as northern Africa, Oman and Antarctica.
