Glassy apophyllite, peach stilbite and fine scolecite share one specimen here.

Apophyllite is usually colorless or white and grows in blocky, pyramid tipped crystals, while stilbite forms bundles of thin crystals that, in this piece, are a soft peach. Scolecite adds slender needle crystals, often in radiating sprays. The combination makes for a lot of texture in a hand sized cluster, which the front view, back view and in hand photos all show well. It looks clean on glass or a light shelf, as one of the photos shows, and it suits a collector who wants something more interesting than a single species. Scolecite, stilbite and apophyllite all turn up in the basalt cavities of India's Deccan Traps, although the locality of this specimen is not recorded. The cluster in the photos is the exact one you will receive.

It is about 5.5 inches long, 3.25 inches wide and 3 inches high, and it weighs about 0.455 kilograms.

About Apophyllite and Stilbite

Apophyllite and stilbite both grow in open cavities in basalt, and the Deccan Traps of India are a prolific source, with salmon pink stilbite often found beside apophyllite near Mumbai and Pune. Stilbite is a zeolite that forms sheaf or bow tie shaped bundles of thin crystals. Apophyllite forms prismatic or tabular crystals with a glassy to pearly luster; it is about 4.5 to 5 on the Mohs scale, and stilbite is softer.

Stone Meaning: Apophyllite is traditionally associated with clarity and spiritual awareness.
