Valentine's Day, an anniversary or just because: a polished agate heart with druzy on top suits all three.

Each heart is polished agate with druzy crystals on top, and they come in a range of colors, so the photos are the best guide to choosing. The five sizes run from heart 1, a pocket size piece at about 2.4 inches and 0.105 kilograms, up to heart 5 at about 5.1 inches and just over 1 kilogram, which is substantial enough for a shelf or mantel. Hearts 2, 3 and 4 sit in between at about 2.6, 4.25 and 4.5 inches. The druzy is made of tiny crystals that lined a cavity in the stone, which is why it sparkles when light hits it. Agate is hard microcrystalline quartz, so the polished surfaces hold up to being handled. You choose the exact piece from the photos.

About Agate

Agate is a translucent, banded variety of microcrystalline quartz. Its bands form as silica is deposited layer by layer inside a rock cavity, and some cavities end up lined with sparkling druzy crystals. Agate is slightly porous, so it takes dye well, which is how most vividly colored agate in the trade is made.
