Purple fluorite cubes settled on waxy candle quartz make a pairing of opposites, crisp geometry against soft texture.

This cluster came from the Yindu Mine in Inner Mongolia, China, and shows cubic purple fluorite with lilac colored phantoms, fluorite crusted candle quartz and the fine internal lines fluorite is known for. Those lines are cleavage planes, natural to fluorite, which splits along set directions in its crystal structure; they formed as the crystal grew and are part of the specimen's character. Candle quartz gets its name from its milky, waxy look and its coat of smaller secondary crystals. At about 9.5 inches across and nearly 10 pounds, it is a centerpiece for a mineral cabinet or a lit shelf, and a memorable gift for a fluorite collector. This is the exact specimen shown.

The cluster is about 9.5 by 6.25 by 5.375 inches and weighs about 4.425 kilograms (9 pounds 12 ounces).

About Yindu Mine Fluorite and Candle Quartz

Fluorite is calcium fluoride, 4 on the Mohs scale, with four directions of cleavage. The Yindu Mine in Inner Mongolia is a polymetallic skarn deposit whose fluorite forms magenta to deep violet cubes, octahedra and stepped forms, often color zoned with phantoms. Candle quartz is milky quartz named for its waxy, candle shaped look, partly coated with secondary quartz crystals.

Stone Meaning: Fluorite is traditionally associated with focus and clarity.

Additional Details

  • You receive the exact fluorite on candle quartz cluster shown.
  • About 9.5" x 6.25" x 5.375"; about 4.425kg.
  • Origin: Yindu Mine, Inner Mongolia, China.
  • Fine internal lines are natural cleavage planes.
  • Fluorite is soft and cleaves easily; handle by the quartz matrix and dust with a soft brush.
  • Heavy; lift with two hands from the base, not by the crystal edges.
  • Photos show the actual piece.
