Amethyst Stalactite Freeform with Cut Base - One of a Kind, 7 x 8 In

Amethyst stalactites form inside geodes in volcanic basalt, and this freeform piece has been cut flat at the base so it stands for display.

A stalactite builds up as mineral rich water drips and deposits layer after layer, so a piece like this carries a record of slow growth inside the geode. The cut base lets it stand on its own on a console, a mantel, a desk or a display shelf, where the crystals can be seen from several angles. At about 7 by 8 inches, it is a sizable specimen with real presence. Amethyst stalactites are best known from mines near Artigas, Uruguay, though the locality is not recorded for this piece. It makes a memorable gift for a mineral collector or a February birthday. This is the exact stalactite shown.

The stalactite is about 7 by 8 inches.
