Not every mineral specimen needs a cabinet; this peach stilbite and apophyllite formation is happy on a desk.

Peach stilbite and apophyllite grow together on this piece, two minerals that often form in the same basalt cavities in India. Small does not mean plain: the photos show it from the back, in hand and on an agate coaster with succulents, and each angle shows a slightly different arrangement of crystals. It is a sensible size for a first zeolite specimen, a small gift for a coworker who keeps stones at their desk, or a compact addition to a larger collection. It stands about three inches tall. This is the exact formation shown.

Size is about 3.375 by 2.5 by 3 inches tall, and the in hand photo shows how compact it is.

About Stilbite and Apophyllite

Apophyllite, at 4.5 to 5 on the Mohs scale, is a little harder than stilbite, which sits around 3.5 to 4. Stilbite is a zeolite, a hydrous calcium sodium aluminum silicate that often forms sheaf or bow tie shaped bundles, and the two commonly grow together in the basalt cavities of India's Deccan Traps.

Stone Meaning: Stilbite is traditionally associated with relaxation and spiritual growth.
