Pink Halite Crystal Formation from Searles Lake - One of a Kind, 11.5 In

Salt is not usually something you display, but pink halite from Searles Lake makes a strong case for it.

This formation is wide and flat, with layered cubic crystals you can see in the close up photos, so it reads well lying on a shelf or propped in a cabinet where light can reach the edges. It comes from the Mojave Desert of California, which gives it extra meaning for a Californian or for anyone who loves the desert.

About Pink Halite

Halite is natural rock salt, sodium chloride, and it forms cubic crystals that cleave cleanly in three directions. Searles Lake is a salt lake in California's Mojave Desert whose mineral rich brine is pumped to the chemical plant at Trona. The pink to red color of salt from these lakes comes mainly from halobacteria, salt loving microbes with a red pigment, and the alga Dunaliella salina also lives in the brine. Halite is soft, 2 to 2.5 on the Mohs scale.

Stone Meaning: Halite is traditionally associated with clarity and cleansing.
