Two minerals that often grow side by side share one base here: apophyllite crystals and stilbite, set on a matrix of sugary druzy.

Hold it up and the matrix glitters from every angle, while the peach tones give the specimen a warmth most quartz pieces lack. Having both minerals and a druzy base gives you three textures in one piece: glassy apophyllite, fanned stilbite and fine glitter underneath. It is broad rather than tall, so it sits low and steady and shows its crystals from the front and from above. Put it in a lit cabinet, on a bookshelf at eye level, or on an office credenza where people will stop and lean in. It suits a zeolite collector filling out a cabinet, a geology lover's birthday, or anyone who wants a mineral with softer colors than the usual purple and clear. The in hand photo shows the scale.

About Apophyllite and Stilbite

Apophyllite is a group of phyllosilicate minerals with glassy to pearly crystals, 4.5 to 5 on the Mohs scale; it is often sold alongside zeolites but is classified separately. Stilbite is a true zeolite, a hydrous calcium sodium aluminum silicate that often grows in sheaf or bow tie shaped bundles. The two commonly form together in cavities in basalt, and the Deccan Traps of India are a prolific source.

Stone Meaning: Apophyllite is traditionally associated with clarity and reflection.
