Wide Amethyst Cave Geode - One of a Kind, 20.8 In Tall, 75 Lb

Wide rather than tall, this amethyst cave spreads across a sideboard and shows a lot of purple at once.

The base and front are cut flat, so it sits squarely on a floor, a low plinth or a sturdy sideboard with the opening facing the room. Its width suits spaces that call for horizontal mass: under a large painting, at the foot of a staircase or beside a fireplace. Daylight brings out the violet in the crystal. It rewards a close look as much as a view from across the room, and it needs a solid surface that can take its weight.

About Amethyst Cave Geodes

Amethyst caves like this one are large geodes cut open and stood upright. These cavities begin as gas bubbles in basaltic lava; mineral rich fluids later seep in and grow quartz crystals on the walls, purple where trace iron and natural radiation have colored them. The largest amethyst geodes come from the Parana basalts of southern Brazil and neighboring Artigas, Uruguay, two of the world's biggest amethyst producing regions.

Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
