Vanadinite is about 73 percent lead by weight, and besides being collected for display it is mined as an ore of vanadium.

On this raw cluster, barite makes up most of the main face, and the vanadinite crystals glint along the top edge and the front. Those are the sides to turn toward the room, so it shows best facing forward on a shelf, inside a glass cabinet or on an altar. Nothing has been polished or shaped here; the crystal faces are as they formed, which is what most mineral collectors want from vanadinite. The barite gives it a satisfying heft for its size. Give it to someone building a mineral collection, or keep it for a home office where a natural specimen says more than a carving would.

About Vanadinite on Barite

Vanadinite is a lead chlorovanadate. It forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidized zone of lead deposits, especially in arid climates, and its crystals are usually red to orange red with a resinous to sub-adamantine luster. Barite, a dense barium sulfate, is one of the minerals it grows with, and Mibladen in Morocco is a well known source of vanadinite on barite.

Stone Meaning: Vanadinite is traditionally associated with motivation and creativity.
