Hemimorphite takes its name from crystals whose two ends grow in different shapes, one blunt and one pointed.

These Mexican specimens show colorless bladed hemimorphite crystals with mimetite on a limonitic matrix, so you see the clear crystal on one side and the velvety red brown to black matrix on the other. Option 02 is the widest of the four, 03 the longest, and 04 the tallest, while 01 is the most compact for a specimen drawer. Natural light brings out the shine on the blades. About Hemimorphite

Hemimorphite is a zinc silicate and an ore of zinc, usually formed where zinc ores oxidize near the surface. Its name refers to hemimorphic crystals, terminated by different faces at each end. It is moderately soft, 4.5 to 5 on the Mohs scale, and some specimens fluoresce green under shortwave UV.
